“Incident Assessment – A Negotiators Roadmap”

The presentation will discuss incident assessment methodology, commonly used terms and context all aimed at guiding the negotiations process. Assessing threat level, providing feedback and opinion to your commander, and the importance of standardized language are just a few of the many topics which will be discussed.

Inspector Sean Pollock is a 21-year member of the Winnipeg Police Service and during the course of his career has worked in patrol, community support, specialized investigations, traffic and as well time at the Winnipeg Police Service Training division. He was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2022 and is currently assigned to the “operational support – specialty units” division overseeing all special operations portfolios for the Winnipeg Police Service. Inspector Pollock joined the Crisis Negotiation Unit in 2011 and has been deployed to a variety of crisis incidents including suicidal individuals, barricaded subjects and high-risk warrants. He holds the position of adjunct faculty member with the Canadian Police College and is a member of the instructing cadre for the National Tactical Officers Association. Inspector Pollock was awarded the Excellence in Law Enforcement Award by the province of Manitoba.
